The main and largest stadium in Saudi Arabia. Known as the Pearl of Saudi Arabia’s stadiums. Basically, football games are held here now. However, there are also facilities for athletics. The stadium was named in honor of Saudi King Fahd bin Abdulaziz.
The King Fahd International Stadium was established in 1987. Its audience capacity is 68,752 people. The stadium is 116 yards in length and 74 yards in width. The roof of this stadium is one of the longest roofs in the world. It was used as a venue for several games, including the final match of the 1989 FIFA Youth World Cup.
King Fahd International Stadium has been featured in video games such as FIFA 13, FIFA 14, FIFA 15, FIFA 16, and FIFA 17. The total cost of building the stadium was 510 million US dollars.
The roof of the stadium covers an area of 47,000 square feet. It is supported by 24 pillars with a diameter of 247 meters. Huge umbrellas block the sunlight from hitting the stadium seating. Majed Abdullah scored the first goal here. A royal balcony was built here where King Fahd used to stand and watch the games. The architect of this beautiful stadium is Michael KC Chiah. 1992, 1995 King Fahd Cup (which was later renamed the FIFA Confederations Cup) and the 1997 Confederations Cup were held at this ground.
