In all cases, graduate school applicants face the daunting task of taking and passing graduate-level admissions tests. This is also true for many in the field of business management who want to further their education beyond graduation.
The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is the general test required for admission to a recognized online MBA program. However, schools are increasingly abandoning this requirement for the reasons we will discuss below. Let’s first take a look at GMAT and the challenges it presents.
GMAT is used internationally as an entrance exam for a large number of undergraduate business colleges. It measures the test taker’s analytical, problem-solving, quantitative, and verbal abilities that are considered an integral part of potential success in business management programs.
GMAT is a standardized test that is timely and gives examinees about two minutes to complete each question.
Since test takers are penalized for leaving blank answers and often multiple similar solutions are presented in the choices, GMAT encourages assumptions, which may not include representations.
Moreover, examinees who can spend time and money on preparatory courses tend to do better in exams than those who cannot prepare adequately.
For this reason, it may be interesting for some potential online MBA students to look for programs that omit GMAT requirements.
